Brilliant win for Belgium in Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ of SWEDEN in sunny Falsterbo

The sun shined as bright as the smile of chef d’equipe Peter Weinberg when Wilm Vermeir and Iq Van Het Steentje crossed the finish line in Falsterbo on Friday afternoon. With four clear rounds in the second round, the team did not only secure the win of the day in Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ of SWEDEN, but also showed that they are a team to count on for the finals in Barcelona.

Belgium put on an amazing show in Falsterbo on Friday afternoon and scored a total of four clears in the second round of the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ of SWEDEN. For most of the team it was their first time at Falsterbo Horse Show. And what a way to make a mark in the shows history books!

Chef d’equipe Peter Weinberg happiness and pride in the team could not be mistaken as he shared his reflection on the performance:

“My team was brilliant in round one and even better in the second round!” Peter Weinberg shared afterwards at the press conference.

Also the team shared Peters excitement for the win and performance, praising the crowd here at Falsterbo Horse Show:

“The crowd here is amazing”  said Pieter Clemens, one of two double clears in the team. “This is an amazing venue and the surface in the arena is good for our horses. They do a great show here and the spectators are fantastic!”, he said.

The course were designed by Germany’s Frank Rothenberger, who knows how to put the teams up for a good challenge. The first round gave a total of 15 clear rounds, giving the impression that the course were very jumpable. In the second round things took a different turn with many experienced riders having fences down. Making the performance of the 24 year old Gilles Thomas even more impressive:

“We have lots of Nations Cups happening at the moment so we have different riders here and for Gilles (Thomas) this was his first 5* Nations Cup and he was great!”,  “Thomas, double European Champion at Junior level and team silver medallist at the FEI European Young Riders Championship in 2019, is yet another blossoming Belgian talent.”
shared the proud Chef d’equipe Peter Weinberg.

Next up for this brilliant team is Hickstead (GBR) where Peter Weinberg aims to secure their spot in the prestigious prestigious Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup™ Final at the Real Club de Polo in Barcelona (ESP) from 29 September to 2 October.

From all of Falsterbo Horse Show we say a big congratulations to chef d’equipe Peter Weinberg and  team riders Pieter ClemensKoen Vereecke, Gilles Thomas and Wilm Vermeir.
